Big Yank was the workwear name of Reliance Manufacturing, a Chicago company that launched it in 1919 and kept it going until the brand faded out in the 1980s. Shirts were the main event, with patented asymmetric chest pockets, but Reliance also put the name on pants, coveralls and denim bib overalls. The overalls you'll find for sale are mostly later ones, 1970s and 80s denim bibs with Made in USA tags. We found no Big Yank model called the railroad overall, so read that as a seller's description. Older Big Yank workwear can carry the words A Reliance Product on the tag, which points to the 1930s or earlier, and a mid-1930s piece may have an NRA Code tag. Buy these as working overalls, and measure the bib height and inseam as well as the waist.

Tag wording
Look for A Reliance Product printed on the tag. It appears on Big Yank labels up to about the 1930s.
NRA tag
A small NRA Code tag dates a piece to 1933–35, when the National Recovery Administration codes were in force.
Union Made
Union Made on a snap or label fits the mid-century Big Yank pieces collectors have documented.
Care label
A printed care label with Made in USA points to the 1970s or later. Permanent care labels became the rule in 1971.
Reissues and repros
The modern Big Yank, revived in Japan in the 2010s by collector Kinji Teramoto's 35 Summers, mostly reissues shirts and coveralls. Its pieces say Made in Japan.
If you’ll wear it
A later USA-made pair is a solid work overall. Buy on measurements and condition.
If you’ll collect it
Prewar Big Yank overalls with a Reliance tag would be the find, but most listings are later pairs.
Size it by measurement
Bib overalls need more than a waist size. Ask for the waist measured flat across the back, the inseam, the bib height from the waistband to the top of the bib, and how far the straps adjust. Check those against a pair you own, since torso length decides whether a bib fits.

What to check
Measurements first, then the details
Expect worn knees, frayed cuffs, paint and broken or replaced strap buckles. Replaced buckles and patched knees are fine if you're going to work in them.
01Waist: Ask for the waist measured flat across the back, then double it. Compare it with a pair of overalls you own.
02Inseam: Ask for the inseam from the crotch seam to the hem. Check the hems for wear or a re-hem.
03Bib height: Ask for the height from the waistband to the top of the bib. Too short and the straps will pull.
04Straps: Ask how much adjustment is left in the straps and whether both buckles work. Both should hold without slipping.
05Tag: Zoom in on the tag in the photos. A Reliance line or NRA tag means old, a care label means 1970s or later.
06Condition: Ask for photos of the knees, seat and bib pocket. Patches and paint are fine, torn strap ends need a repair.
Buying guide
Which one to buy
§ Oct 11, 2026
For a Big Yank bib, we'd take the raw denim carpenter bib in a 34x30 titled USA at $42 delivered. Only seven turned up, all from US sellers at $38–93 delivered, so the $40–70 band isn't much of a market read. Most are titled 1970s, and none of the titles claim the older A Reliance Product tag that collectors look for, so treat these as working overalls. Bibs need more than a waist size, so get the waist across the back, the inseam, the bib height and how far the straps adjust from the photos or the seller, and check them against a pair you own. eBay's cards don't show seller feedback here, so check it on the item page.
