Wrangler 1947 Heritage Reissues
Wrangler has reissued its first jeans several times, and none of them is called 47MWZ. That number belongs to the Premium Performance Cowboy Cut, a roomier update of the 13MWZ that Wrangler launched around 2010, so a 47MWZ sold as a 1947 reissue is a mix-up. The real reissues started with a Special Collectors Edition 13MWZ for the jean's 50th birthday in 1997. In 2004 Blue Bell by Wrangler reproduced the first Wranglers down to the details, and a Wrangler Blue Bell heritage line followed in the 2010s. In the late 2010s Wrangler made a 1947 slim straight in the USA from Cone Mills White Oak selvedge, and in 2019 the Icons collection brought back a slimmer 11MWZ in broken twill. Hunt the 1997, 2004 and White Oak pieces if you want something that won't be made again.

Style number
Check the style number on the tags. 47MWZ is Wrangler's Premium Performance Cowboy Cut from around 2010, a roomier modern jean, so it isn't a 1947 reissue.
Selvedge
Look inside the outseam. Most original Wranglers have felled seams, while the 1947 Made in USA jean and the 13MWZ Selvedge are cut from selvedge denim.
Care tag
Look for a sewn-in care tag. Care labels became mandatory in 1971, so a pair sold as 1940s or 50s that has one is a reissue.
Fit and pockets
Compare the back pockets with an old pair. The 2019 Icons 11MWZ is slimmer than the original with its back pockets set lower.
Label
A Blue Bell logo on a crisp label next to a modern care tag points to the 2004 Blue Bell by Wrangler collection or the 2010s Blue Bell line.
Reissues and repros
Outside Wrangler, TCB's Working Cat Hero jeans copy the 11MW in Japanese left-hand twill, and RRL has made limited jeans after 1950s Blue Bell Wranglers. Both carry their own brand names.
If you’ll wear it
A reissue gets you the 1947 look in a size that fits, and you can wear it hard.
If you’ll collect it
The 1997 anniversary 13MWZ and the 2004 Blue Bell by Wrangler pieces were limited runs, and the 1947 jean used denim from Cone's White Oak plant, which has since closed.
Size it by measurement
Reissues carry modern sizes and tags, so they sit closer to the tag than a 70-year-old original, but the fit changes from run to run. The late-2010s 1947 Made in USA jean was a slim straight, and the Icons 11MWZ was slimmed from the original. Raw selvedge pairs can still shrink, so ask for the waist flat and doubled, the rise, the thigh and the leg opening instead of trusting the tag.

What to check
Measurements first, then the details
Reissues are recent, so wear is usually light. Check selvedge pairs for crotch wear and frayed hems, and make sure a raw pair hasn't been shrunk below its tag in a hot wash.
01Waist: Ask for the waist measured flat across the top of the waistband, then double it. Raw pairs can measure under the tag after a wash.
02Inseam: Ask for the inseam from the crotch seam to the hem. Check whether a long pair has been hemmed.
03Thigh: Ask for the thigh measured flat just below the crotch. The 1947 jean and the Icons 11MWZ are slim, so compare with a pair you own.
04Leg opening: Ask for the leg opening measured flat at the hem. Expect a slimmer opening than a 13MWZ.
05Style number: Ask for a photo of the inside tags. 47MWZ means the Premium Performance jean, not a reissue.
06Selvedge: Ask for a photo inside the outseam. A selvedge edge fits the 1947 jean or the 13MWZ Selvedge.
07Care tag: Read the care tag in the photos. Its dates and fiber details should match the run the seller claims.
Buying guide
Which one to buy
§ Oct 11, 2026
This page is thin. We found five real listings among about 23 matches, since most jeans with 1947 in the title were modern lines that just use the date, so the $50–65 band isn't a market read. We'd take the White Oak Cone Denim selvedge pair at $51 delivered, since Wrangler's late-2010s 1947 jean was made in the USA from Cone's White Oak selvedge and that plant has since closed. A 47MWZ tag means Wrangler's modern Premium Performance Cowboy Cut, which isn't a reissue, so check the tags for the line and the country. The fit changes from run to run, so get the waist flat and doubled, the rise, the thigh and the leg opening, and skip the zero-feedback seller's 1947 pair.
